The Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia

The Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia was established by Leadership Arlington in 2010, as a specific center of learning for nonprofit organizations.  The mission of the Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia is to create capacity in our region's nonprofit organizations through training nonprofit executive staff and board members, thus creating more efficient, skilled nonprofit leaders.


The programs that compose the Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia are as follows:

ON BOARD!

ON BOARD! is a twice-yearly training where individuals attend a one-day seminar designed to give broad, basic overview of the roles and responsibilities of nonprofit board members. Samples of past topics include fundraising and corporate partnerships, maximizing volunteers, and policy-based governance. The ON BOARD! faculty is made up of trained facilitators and seasoned nonprofit executives eager to share their years of “real world” experience with board members and nonprofit organizations.

 

Black Belt for Nonprofits

Launched in partnership with Arlington County Economic Development, Black Belt for Nonprofits takes an in-depth look at issues facing nonprofits and skills needed to maximize capacity. In these educational breakfasts, each topic is discussed over a series of 3 sessions (once per month).  Four topics will be discussed per year.  The Black Belt for Nonprofits Workshops are designed for the CEO, or senior staff, of a nonprofit organization and a representative of that organization's Board of Directors.

Customized Board Trainings

Leadership Arlington's Customized Board Trainings consist of trainings customized to the needs of the nonprofit boards who hire our facilitators. In conjunction with the organization’s chief executive, an experienced facilitator conducts a comprehensive study of the systems of the nonprofit, providing a unique and innovative training environment. All customized trainings focus on the creation of an implementation plan specific to the organization.
