Leadership Arlington Youth Program!

The Leadership Arlington Youth Program is designed to enhance leadership skills and awareness of the need for community service, civic participation, and philanthropy in high school students in the 11th or 12th grades.

The program days will be held Monday – Thursday the week of August 4 & the week of August 11, 2008. The students will work with trained facilitators for a skill-based, experienced-learning program to develop their leadership. The curriculum will ensure a strong foundation by initially concentrating on self-development and awareness, and then building over time to include the larger community and requisite social skills.

At the end of their program year, students will have enhanced leadership skills, increased awareness of the value of civic participation, and familiarity with areas in Arlington beyond their immediate neighborhood and school. They will have been introduced to adult leaders in business, non-profits and Arlington County Government. And they will be part of a network of adult and youth leaders in Arlington, which can form an excellent basis for their success in the work and college world, as well as in their junior or senior year of high school.

"The Leadership Arlington Youth Program allowed me to gain knowledge that I never had before about the Arlington community. The leadership skills learned, as well as the emphasis on philanthropy has made me more confident as a leader, and will be used for the rest of my life. I will never forget this program, and can't wait to give back to the Arlington community that has opened both me and many others to its various opportunities."

- Bianca Vassare, Washington-Lee High School and recipient of the Posse Scholarship
